Winter Roses

This project marks the moment when video, poetry, and painting converged in my practice. I began with a short video that layers moving images of winter flowers with animated fragments drawn from classical paintings. These insertions create a fluid dialogue between historical gesture and living motion, where petals and figures seem to breathe, dance, and dissolve into one another.

From selected stills of the video, I painted five large watercolors (30 × 22 inches). Translating the digital motion and layered animations back into the slow, material language of watercolor allowed the rhythms of the dance to settle into fixed yet luminous surfaces. The process revealed how movement, memory, and mark-making echo one another across media.

In retrospect, Winter Dance of Flowers became the threshold to Holy Contradictions. It was here that the tension between structured composition (the underlying geometry of classical references and natural forms) and spontaneous gesture (the unpredictable flow of video and brush) first crystallized as a single, interconnected inquiry. Video provided the temporal dimension, poetry the inner voice, and painting the tangible space where contradictions could coexist.

The five watercolors and the video are presented together as a hybrid body of work, inviting viewers to move between stillness and motion, between the frozen frame and the living brushstroke.

Explore a diverse portfolio, where each piece is an exploration of creativity and fate. From abstract works to floral artwork prints, Fleur Thesmar's artworks embrace the beauty of transparency and randomness, akin to watercolors and multiple exposure photography. Each stroke and composition reflects the unique art of Fleur Thesmar - Boston Contemporary Artist , inviting you to discover the hidden depths within.
